How far would you go to find yourself?

That’s the question that’s been haunting Olivia Owens for years.

All Olivia has ever wanted to do is live and make mistakes, but her preacher father has made that impossible. She believes that her years at college will be her ticket into the real world and her chance to be wild and spontaneous.

But she’s never been able to do it on her own.

At the start of her sophomore year, she only has four things crossed off her Live List, but that’s all about to change thanks to a chance encounter with Trace Wentworth. She’s about to learn that there’s more to this reformed bad boy than just his looks and panty dropping smile.

Trace can’t explain what it is that draws him to Olivia.

All he knows is that he wants to get to know the girl with the sad smile but sparkle in her eyes.

When she tells him about her list, he knows that this is his chance to get to know Olivia Owens. Trace is determined to show Olivia that she can do all the things she’s ever wanted to do. So, he begins to help her cross things off her list, even the more outlandish requests.

What happens along the way is more than what Olivia or Trace ever expected.

Wanted to love this book - but storyline and dialogue fell short for me
By Reading as much as I can
Olivia is a Sophomore in college and is from a very dysfunctional home. Her father is a preacher that is verbally abusing his daughter and wife. Olivia is classically rebelling again her father by doing things he would completely disapprove of. She has created a list of things to do that would make her feel alive and things that she felt robbed of as a child - since her father was so strict and wouldn't let her do anything as a child.

Trace works as a mechanic in an auto shop and is the classic, hunk. He has had a brief run in with his wild side (he spent a few years doing things in reaction to a tragedy in his life) - meaningless sex, drinking, etc. Olivia meets Trace and the sparks fly immediately.
Trace pursues her and she bonds with him, trusting him and sharing her 'live list' with him, even though she hasn't event shared it with her BFF.

The story is about the growth of friendship, love and how they help each other heal. It's more about Olivia healing and 'growing' out of her shy self, than her helping Trace. He has already done the 'bad boy' thing and realized that it was just destructive.

So the overall story is good in theory. Shy girl meets reformed bad boy. They fall in love and HEA. No cliffhanger. Great sex scenes. No epilogue though.

But the reason I could only give this book three stars is the following:
- The dialogue was only marginally good. They spoke like they were in middle school. She tells him, "you're weird" a lot. He is super hunk, uber-amazing, uber-everything...and "you're weird" is what he gets from her???? He jokes with her and she gets defensive, then he tells her he's just joking and she recants her defensive mean comments. That happens WAY too much for me in this book. He is a happy-go-lucky guy!!! How is he getting so hot and bothered by a girl that is so shy and doesn't get sarcasm? And when she attempts to throw it back at him, it fails. Just sounds juvenile.
- The 'surprises'. There are a few surprises about Trace's family. His family background creates a problem with Olivia. She PROMISES never to freak out again, and then she does it again a few chapters later!!! What is her deal???? She is too weak, shy, literal and uptight for Trace. Trace really deserves someone sassy, independent, sexually creative/adventuresome and funny. I really couldn't see how these two fit.
- Olivia's mom. How could she deal with Olivia's dad for SOOOOOOO long- then suddenly things turn around? She watched her husband verbally kick the crap out her daughter for 20 years!!!! WHAT MOTHER WOULD DO THIS???? Then suddenly mom grows a pair and all is well with the world? That completely was unbelievable.
- Olivia's mental stability and state of mind. The book COMPLETELY glosses over the MAJOR discovery that Olivia makes about her father. Also, the BIG tragedy that falls upon her towards the end of the book - girl is gonna need some serious therapy. Does either thing seem to affect her? No, she is a little freaked out, then back to business as normal. She tells her BFF, Trace, she cries, then it's done.

If the author would have make Olivia a bit more independent, funny - the dialogue more witty and funny and less juvenile ; this could have been a great book for me. I could have looked over the storyline a bit - to me, great dialogue really helps to immerse you into the characters. Overall, this book just fell short for me.

When I got this book I was so excited and totally fangirling over it, and I was not disappointed. I absolutely love this author and her books, she is amazing!

Now... like all her books, this author has written amazing characters with a great story. You will love these characters and want more more more! The MCs are awesome & I have to tell you, I absolutely want to read a book about Avery. I absolutely LOVE her!!
Olivia is a fantastic character. She is complex and so full of emotions. I fell in love with her from the start.
Trace is amazing - inside & out. He has demons, like everyone, but is such a great person. I loved that Olivia sees that from the beginning.
I love the amount of time that passes during this story - there is no insta-love here.
The story develops at a nice pace and you get to know and understand each character all the way through. I really love how this author writes - her pace is always great and the writing is high quality and really flows well. I'm going to leave you on that note for now, I might come back and update this review as I feel the story and live with it the rest of the week.

Bottom line - check out this book, it's great & I think you will really like it.

Did we read the same book?

Reading the positive reviews for this book made me wonder if I got another version. I can't say I hated this book because I became infatuated with the character, Trace; he could do no wrong for me. He had a lot of patience and compassion for Olivia. However, I couldn't stand Olivia. I can accept that she had a lot of insecurities and very low self esteem stemming from her childhood, but felt she didn't learn to get past them even with the help of Trace and her "list." She was an intelligent person, but common sense eluded her and that annoyed me a lot.
