Better than expected - 3.5 stars

I read the second book in this series first and didn't like the h from this book in that story where she is that h's sister. This is book 1 and starts off with our h, who has a business a 'fixer'. She's had a long term client, the H, who is a bad boy and she no longer deals with his account, her colleague does. They have a bit of a history but never slept together or anything but there was a spark.
This story starts where the H makes the h a business proposal, where if she marries him so that he can seal a deal, he will pay her millions of dollars once they get divorced. I quite like marriage of convenience stories. This one is different because they don't promise never to touch each other, in fact very few details are worked out at all.
I'm left with a few questions and don't think that the author tied this up 100%. However it is a good story with a slightly annoying h. I can see how that escalated into the next book but she was ok here.
I will definitely read the third book when it comes out.

A heroine to be ignored...

I started out liking Amy. I liked her maturity, wit, intuitiveness, and her focus. Two quarters into the story I was more contemptuous of her. I didn't care for her extreme cynicism or hypocrisy--second guessing Ethan's motives, but giving a pass to a man just like him. She was very hard on Ethan throughout the story, but her attraction to him kept her in the game.
The overwrought love scenes were amateurish and unconvincing. The tease factor alone was extreme and overdone. No need to say and do the same things over and over again. See how I just made the same statement in three different sentences? If so, you get my point.
I couldn't stand Amy by the three-quarter point. She was too much. I just wanted her to grow the hell up. When is anyone's motives pure? How could someone so experienced with the motives behind public and personal scandals be so stupidly naive? The character began the book as a self-possessed, adult woman, but ended it an insecure teenaged drama queen.
There were enough errors to make even me take notice past the half-way point. I wouldn't mention them normally, but I hate the Amy character enough to be that petty.

The Billionaire's Marriage Contract

I didn't finish this and here's why. Amy owned a successful business. She helped get politicians, businessmen, celebrities, out of trouble. Ethan was one of her clients. When he proposes to her, a temporary arrangement in order to acquire a business for his company, then offers her ten million dollars if she accepts, she can't pass it up. It would help her business and she has to admit she finds Ethan attractive. They get married then immediately fly out of state to meet with the man whose business Ethan wants to buy. All they have to do is pretend to be in love. HOWEVER, as soon as they land, Ethan gets a mysterious phone call and has to return home to handle another matter. He insists Amy stay and schmooze their host, only its the host's son, Logan who picks her up then tries to "pick her up", if you know what I mean. Her protests about being married fall on deaf ears. HOWEVER, knowing he's making a play for her, she goes with him to a bar. Of course he's flirting and being charming. When he asks her to go to his loft, supposedly with other people too, she's actually thinking about what it would be like to be with him. She's enjoying his coming on to her. This is where she lost me. Totally turned me off. It went against the character the author had portrayed up to that point, a woman who prided herself on her integrity, an astute business person with a good head on her shoulders. Her job was to deflect and diffuse scandals, not participate in one of her own. HOWEVER, that's not all! Just when she's getting ready to leave with Logan, who should conveniently show up but Ethan. And he's upset to find her at a bar with Logan! I would be too! For the life of me, though, I can't understand why at a pivotal point in their relationship would the author suddenly have the hero leave and bring in another man? One the heroine is actually considering going home with? Especially when it seems Ethan has more in mind than their business arrangement. I was totally disgusted and found it impossible to like Amy after that. The scene was completely unnecessary to the telling of the story. There never was a satisfactory explanation for Ethan' s departure, unless it was brought up at the end, and like I said, I didn't finish it.
