Not for me.

Here's my problem. When I was in school, I was in honors English. And in honors English you must write. A lot. Problem is that when you write for grammatical content alone, it sounds like you are a freaking robot. There is no flow. You write as if you speak in perfectly thought-out, perfectly constructed sentences, when in fact, people use slang, contractions and colloquialisms in most everyday speech. This book sounds like an English essay that she turned into a book. The sex scenes were painful. Effing painful. I skipped most of them after reading the first one. And the day I skip a sex scene is the day the devil needs ice skates. I felt zero connection to the characters, the added drama of Kara was unnecessary, and the daddy issues were mediocre at best. The drama felt forced, as if they slapped some in just for added fluff. I think this author has promise, but a good editor and beta readers would do her a world of good.

She had a lot of insecurities and was a push over when it came to Brady. He waited until the end of the book to tell her ANYTHING about his life and she had already told him everything. She felt left out repeatedly because some girl who wanted her man knew the truth and was always around when things went bad for Brady's family. Yes, I would have fought for my man too if some girl thought she was going to work her way into his graces but I still would have given him heck for pushing me away and staying by the other girl. I would not have rolled over and let that go because the hero knew that the heroine did not like that other girl and whether his family had an issue or not, in no way would he treat me like trash or a fifth wheel for someone else. He deserved to be yelled at and have to grovel for his actions. I did not like it all that much.

Great premise...lots of promise...but didn't work for me

Okay...I don't like doing this, and maybe part of this is my fault, so I am taking partial responsibility. Honestly...I just came off a bunch of really back to back awesome books, this was bound to happen...but the last one was an extreme mind-f^@% and I'm wondering if that isn't part of the cause for why this book didn't work for me. Mentally, I just don't think I was connecting with the book.
I like the premise...I really liked the opening scene (it's what pulled me in and made me be like hey...maybe I need to read this one)...I really liked Brady...and I really wanted to like Sadie...but it just wasn't there. I felt like I was getting all of the facts but none of the emotions. Like I was being told what was happen but nothing was tying me to the events or making me really even care enough. The way she described Brady was awesome, but I never felt Sadie's desire or feelings towards him. I don't know how to explain it...the whole time I was reading I couldn't figure out what the big deal was, I knew she obviously had a secret and she needed to guard herself, but I still need to be able to clue into her and connect to her somehow. And I didn't.
There were also a few 'duh' moments for me, like a little redundancy and kind of wondering why we were being told the obvious...then a few minor things just didn't add up at all and the point that finally broke me was when her roommate walked in and decides now is the time to bare all her secrets. It just didn't seem realistic, it was too forced. Also, the writing was very staccato and fell flat for me, probably because of the lack of emotions I was already feeling.
I take full responsibility for why I didn't like this book...I do want to give it another shot maybe when I'm out of the crazy head-space that I am in and when I can try and connect with the characters again...I really hope it was just me.
