Kirsten a young nurse goes camping alone and finds a mysterious man called Teague who has been attacked and left for dead by a rogue wolf pack. She desperately tries to save his life and in the process discovers he is not what he seems.
To win his love she must make the 'CHANGE' between human and wolf and Teague must break the rules of his pack. Contains adult situations.
He rolled away, growling, backing away from the makeshift bed and into the deep shadows made by the trees and brush. Nausea overtook him and he heaved into the bushes, his head swimming and his gut aching. Dizziness knocked him to his knees and he heaved again, leaving him leaning against a tree, his muscles shaking.
“Wild dogs attacked you. You really should be laying down, Sir.” Kirsten said, sitting up. She squinted into the darkness, attempting to find him. She could barely make out a huddled form leaning against a tree.
“Who are you?” A gruff voice greeted her.
“My name is Kirsten Dawes. I’m a nurse.” She said softly. “I found you.”
“I thank you for your help.” He said hoarsely. “How long have I been here?”
“I found you yesterday.” She said, slowly getting to her feet. He took a step back from her, wincing and holding his stomach. “You’re wounds should have killed you. Yet you seem to heal at a very rapid rate. What are you?” She asked. He stared at her in shock.
“I’m just a man, Kirsten.” He said finally.
“Please don’t treat me like I’m stupid or crazy. I know what I saw.” She insisted. “You heal faster than any human I have ever seen, faster than any human possibly can. You may be human, but you are something else too, aren’t you?”
“I just heal fast is all.”
“You’re lying to me.” She walked toward him and poked him firmly in the chest. He was so weak he fell over. “Tell me the damn truth. Now.”
“Or what?” He growled, stunned that just someone poking him was too much. He must be weaker than he thought.
“Or I will knock you out and drag you back to the hospital for them to do every test imaginable on you.” She said firmly. “You should be in a hospital anyway.”
He kicked out and pulled her to the ground, slamming her head down into the rocks when his big beefy hand went around her neck, gripping tightly. A low growl rumbled through his chest, snarling, his eyes blazing an inhumane orange-ish color as he bared his teeth at her.
“Oh yeah, you’re all human.” She gasped sarcastically. “You’re stitches are bleeding. Let me up!”
“I should kill you where you lay!” Teague growled. She squirmed under his hand, and suddenly he was aware of her, intimately. Her small frame seemed impossibly small under his large one. He eased up on her neck just a bit. “Because you saved my life, I give you back yours. But don’t you ever threaten me like that again, lady!” He lifted his palm away from her throat and let her breathe. She scrambled back away from him, putting several feet between them.
“So what is your name? I told you mine.” She rasped, coughing.
“Teague Brenner.” He sat back from her and held his stomach. His bandages were seeping and he felt sick again. He forced his body under control and willed his muscles to stop shaking.
“Well, Teague. Whatever you are, no matter how fast you heal, you need to lie down again, before you pass out. I don’t want to have to drag you back over to the bed.” Kirsten insisted. “I won’t hurt you.” She vowed.
“Fine.” He agreed. “Do you have any food? I’m starving.”
“I’ll heat up some soup for you.” She smiled at him.
“Thank you.” He said gruffly.
“So, what are you?” Kirsten asked, feeding the fire to build it up enough to cook some chicken soup.
“Look, you saved my life, so please don’t make me lie to you, Kirsten.”
“If I guess, will you tell me?” She asked, obviously intrigued.
“Maybe. But I doubt you will guess.” He said dryly.
“You’re a werewolf, aren’t you?”

Hot Shifter Romance

This is part of a series, but can be read as a stand-alone. This is a short story, but the romance between the main characters was pretty complete. There were some conflicts that were mentioned that are apparently part of a major story arc that continues over several books. The issues left hanging didn't directly involve the main characters' romance and they get their HEA. These werewolves are more brutal than some stories I have read, but I know there are some that are far worse. I don't read the stories where the shifters are mostly animal in behavior. The hero is strong, protective, and caring. The heroine is smart, strong, caring and independent. There was humor, action, hot romance, and paranormal elements. There is one very obvious flaw with this book. The author apparently couldn' decide if the heroine should be a doctor or a nurse. This flaw was annoying but didn't keep me from enjoying the story. I have read two of the books in this series and I plan to read more.
