Learn how to install SQL Server, but not much about SSAS

Instant Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services 2012 Dimensions and Cube is another book in the Instant series of books published by PacktPub and the first of this series of books that I haven't liked.
Like all of these books, it is short. The total number of pages is 72 and 15 of those are front and back matter. This leaves 57 pages of actual import and there are a lot of pictures so really only about 45 pages or so to read through.
The first 5 pages give an overview of dimensions and cubes and what's new in SSAS 2012. The next 13 pages cover installation of SQL Server 2012. The next 22 pages cover adding SSAS and SSRS to an already running instance of SQL Server and basic administration of a SQL Server instance (security, CPU affinity, memory, etc.). We're 41 pages in and haven't even really talked about the topic the book is about. I understand setting up the software is important, but we're running out of space in the book so hopefully the rest is dedicated to working with dimensions and cubes.
The next 5 pages or so talk about developing dimensions and 8 pages about developing cubes, so we're starting to get on topic. After this, the book turns to the Top 5 features you need to know, and those really are basic to SQL Server and again do not cover the topic of the book in my opinion. As with all the other books in this series, the book finishes up with People and places you should get to know. Again most of these are standard SQL Server links and not directly related to the topic of dimensions and cubes.
I would have loved to learn how to query a cube using MDX but sadly this was not mentioned. Overall I am disappointed in this book in a series that has to me come to give a great quick introduction about a topic without all the fluff. In my opinion this book is more about setting up SQL Server.

Everything about SQL Server 2012 and nothing at the same time

If you have suddenly found yourself in a hurry implementing the Microsoft Analysis Services 2012 (OLAP), you probably may consider getting the so called "Instant" book from Packt: Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services 2012 Dimensions and Cube by Anurag Acharya. But...
Unfortunately, this book does not quite meet the today's IT industry technical publication standards bar.
The main three reasons are as follows:
#1: The book walks you through only the default installation with some minor (and potentially impacting) tweaks;
#2: The author uses at times some strange jargon and
#3: Despite its title, the book actually devotes VERY little time to SSAS (OLAP).
If I would be asked to sum-up my impressions after reading this book in three words I would say: "This book is everything about SQL Server 2012 and nothing, all at the same time".

Wrong focus...too little real information

Although I got this book for a quick read and a high level view of SQL Server Analysis Services 2012, it was all in all too high of a view.
I was able to get the main features and ideas of SSAS 2012 but overall there was not enough real information in this slapdash concoction of a book. There was, however, an altogether, overly extensive section on setting up SSAS 2012 and its security settings. This would be nice in a book that contains such in depth information. But, this book is supposed to be an overview. On the other hand, there was not enough information on what building cubes, facts and dimensions entails and this is where some detail would have been useful and informative. In addition, the screenshots used are thrown in and are quite butchered not to mention they are referenced in a confusing manner.
Don't read this if you want to be able to actually know how to use SSAS!
