About the Author
Steve Fisher (1912–1980) was a crime author and screenwriter responsible for some of Hollywood’s finest early noir. His best work includes the screenplays for Song of the Thin Man (1947), Dead Reckoning (1947), and I Wake Up Screaming (1941), based on his novel of the same name.

Watch out! He may be after you!

Author Steve (Gould) Fisher was one of the most influential writers in both fiction and in film scripts in ushering in the classic age of Hollywood film noir in the 1940s. Here, with "You'll Always Remember Me" from the March, 1938 issue of the famous pulp magazine Black Mask, he shows his talent for psychological suspense, with a chilling tale told in first person narrative.
It's the story of Martin Thorpe, a fourteen-year-old boy with a habit of getting thrown out of boarding schools, and his obsession with the trial of Tommy Smith - a young man who has just been sentenced to hang for murdering his father. Or did he? Was Martin just a witness or is there more to his story? And what is the role of Marie, Tommy's sister and the girl Martin is in love with, in all of this? And why do hymns played on the piano act such a large part in the narrative?
Read it and find out why this story still manages to raise goose bumps - even in the jaded age of today.

Gripping from the get-go

As with much of modern cinema and television, I am becoming increasingly weary of the dreck that comprises the modern book scene, particularly when it comes to sci-fi. So, in desperation, I have decided to completely change gears and start exploring an entirely new genre for me: the genre of classic (30s-50s) noir fiction. No regrets so far. :)
You'll Always Remember Me is a short story I came across while "sampling" a collection of classic noir tales in a short story omnibus. Unfortunately, this story was cut in half as a tease to get you to buy the omnibus, so I had to leave the story unfinished until I am prepared to buy the collection.
But I just couldn't stop thinking about this disturbing tale in the days that followed. I had to find out what happened to the 14 year old delinquent who was at the center of a disturbing murder (something's just not right with that kid)!
I was happy to see I could buy just this short story from Black Mask Magazine for $2.00. Yeah, that might be a bit high when a novel goes for $10 or less these days, but the story was worth it. No regrets! Highly recommended. As the title says, you'll never forget this story!
