This is an excellent book. Cropper must have put an enormous effort into researching and writing this 500 page, large format paperback, which has been nicely printed on white paper. At its current price of $12.97 an incredible bargain.

At first glance this book appears to be sort of a strange hybrid of biography and science, but the combo works. Cropper generally starts a chapter on a scientist with a few page biographical sketch followed by a longer, clearly written, physics section. I would estimate that the book is about 70% physics and about 30% biographical. The biographical sections are well done and interesting, but the book really shines in its overview of the physics.

Cropper covers 30 scientists with many of them in thermodynamics and atomic physics. Reading these sections you not only get a good overview of the science at a moderate technical level (a notch or two above the usual popular science writing level since Cropper is not afraid of using equations), but also you get an historical understanding of who did what and how their contributions fit together. Another plus is that Cropper will often describe in some detail how a key experiment has been done.

As a technical person (like a previous reviewer, I am an engineer), not only did I learn a lot from this book about how many of the secrets of this world have been discovered, but some of the gaps in my physics knowledge were filled in. Cropper set himself a big task to write an overview of much of physics, but he has pulled it off with style.

nice and concise

I preferred this read over Mad Dash. I like how Liz updated the fictional wedding timelines as the chapters went on to demonstrate the changes you will make. I also appreciate that it is written for both the bride, and the person selected to be in charge. My only criticism is that this publication needs another proof. I noticed some typos that put a damper on an otherwise excellent resource.

Sea salt.

I used to have favorites by Mr. Vernon, but no longer. I'm not saying that all his books are my faves, but I count his Sea Tales to be my very favorites. I've got his whole collection, and they're as good as most things I've ever read. I have always been drawn to the Seas. I've always felt that.there just may be a philosopher in seasoned seamen. If you love odd separators, then you'll love this. But, don't just buy this one, buy the whole collection. You can't go wrong with any of those stories. Ali firmly believe that Mr. Vernon is a storyteller that past weaver of world's would be proud of! Yep, I'd recommend this story and author.

Brit & Hunter

I didn't really care for Brit in 'Unbroken', but wow did Melody make me love and understand her in this book. I felt for and my heart broke for her. Then came Hunter...offering her love and acceptance while working out his own kinks with her family expectations. I'll stop here before I give too much away.

The book is a great read and follow up to 'Unbroken'. Yet I think it could be a stand
alone read. Jules and Emerson (my fav couple) makes an appearance in this book.

I can't wait for Jules and Emerson's wedding book to release in Dec and the next book featuring Lacey Jules best friend.

Review: Unafraid

Unafraid was another new adult win for me! It is a really refreshing storyline and I read it in one sitting. I dare ya not to like this one.

Brittany is such a strong girl. She was dealt a shit hand in life, her dad leaving their family and her mom loved booze more than Brittany. She has dreams, dreams she wants more than anything to accomplish She's extremely pessimistic and I really can't blame her because of her upbringing, but I wish she didn't have such a load on her shoulders. She expects the worst out of Hunter, just because of her past experience, and I love when he proves her wrong.

Hunter truly is a golden boy, just like Brit thinks. He is so dang considerate, sweet, and just perfect. And yet, he is messed up inside just like Brittany. But he doesn't let it stop him from giving his all to her and showing her so much love. He's headstrong, just like his counterpart and never gives up no matter how many times she tells him to go away.

I loved seeing Juliet and Emerson back in action. They are so cute together and Emerson loves his little sister and will beat up anyone that hurts his sister. Garrett is like a surrogate brother to Brittany as well and I really love his character.

The thing I loved about Unbroken, Juliet and Emerson's book, and this book is that the couples have a past. Brit and Hunter have a complicated past, and I enjoyed having it unfolded in pieces. I love having deliciously tortured pasts. :) Hunter and Brit may have not seen each other in three years, but none of their feelings ever diminished. Their relationship develops fast, and they feel so strongly for each other. Their sexy times were beyond sexy and their sweet times were adorable.

I liked this installment even more than Unbroken and I can't wait to see what Melody has up her sleeve for us!

Favorite Swoon-worthy Quote: It's the kiss I've been waiting three long years to taste again, but it's nothing like I imagined. Sweet and soft, hot and slow. My eyes drift shut with bliss as his mouth dances softly over mine. He's barely touching me, but the shudder of pleasure that rolls through me is enough to make my heart stop and my legs buckle. Hunter wraps an arm around my waist, holding me up, and I sway into him, lost in the darkness.

2 stars - The characters didn't do it for me in this one.

I loved book one, Unbroken. Emerson and Juliet were so real for me. And I was so looking forward to Unafraid, hoping it would be more of the same. Sadly, my experience was not the same at all.

Let me start with things I did enjoy. The ending was my favorite part. I really liked how a few elements of the book came together at that moment to create a sweet ending. There was also a lot of very hot, steamy moments in this one. Enjoyed these things tons.

However, this type of story is very character driven for me. I have to believe these people are real and that their actions match who they claim to be. When there is a disconnect, I don't enjoy the story. That was the case for Unafraid.

I didn't understand their relationship. They had met and had one night three years before. Brit had ran off before Hunter woke up. This short time together (that we only get a few glimpses of) is apparently where they both fell in love. I needed more than that to accept their feeling for each other. The story doesn't give us enough to see them fall in love. I just needed more.

Every couple has some reason they can't be together. Some are more plausible than others. I wasn't buying Hunter and Brit's reasons. I'm not sure I even understand it. Brit feels like everyone she loves leaves her, so she not risking it with Hunter, even though the feeling are apparently already there. Hunter fights her but he's not convinced he's worthy of her. His crimes are painful and I, maybe, got his reasons more. But the distance that it causes between them never felt real. I never had that "OMG...are they not going to be together" moment. It was always a fact how the story would end.

Then there was this kinky side of Hunter that didn't really fit him. He's a rebel only in the sense that he doesn't want anything to do with the high society life his parents lead. Sweet, caring, thoughtful, understanding, helpful, sexy, gorgeous all describe him. He's not a kinky guy. When he's demanding...or commanding Brit come, I'm like...really? There might have been some horse leads used for purposes other than there intended use as well. That really seemed out of character for Hunter too. I just don't like it when a character acts one way for some scenes and a very different way in other scenes. It make me realize he's not real and it makes me sad.

About the Author
Master C S Tang is a senior Xingyi Quan, Bagua Quan and Yi Quan expert and researcher from Hong Kong, known for the depth of his knowledge and his skill in the internal systems. He studied Xingyi Quan with several Masters of the old generation, and has made a special study of collecting and researching the ancient training manuals of various Chinese martial arts systems. He lives in Hong Kong.

the work was very open in many regards and mr. tang took time to explain some of the myths, principles, and applications of hsing-i that do not receive much attention or seem very understood by most people, even hsing-i practitioners. the weapons systems depicted seemed to added on last minute and offer very little insight into weapons forms. there is very little cross over from other martial arts, especially pa kau or tai chi, that is common in so many other works on hsing-i. it was great to see that he kept his focus strict and open. the historical information is great and in depth. the explanations offered should be very useful to beginners and help more experienced practitioners see something useful as well, even teachers. while not whole complete, there is more than enough information to make it a good purchase and great addition to any library on the martial arts. i enjoyed this work on hsing-i chuan very much; as a hobbyist, a student, and a sifu.
